William I. Stoudt, Sr., 84 of Reading, PA., passed away on July 24, 2025 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. He was the husband of Linda M. (Banks) Stoudt for almost 51 years. Born in Reading, PA., he was the son of the late Isaac Stoudt and the late Veronica (Martin) Stoudt. William was a Career Firefighter for the City of Reading for 45 1/2 years. The majority of his career, he was assigned as a Platform Operator on Snorkel 1/Tower 1 until he retired in 2008. In addition to his professional career, he dedicated himself to serving in numerous volunteer roles. He began as a volunteer firefighter at the Oakbrook Fire Company in 1958 and transferred to the Liberty Fire Company in 1961, where he later went on to serve as it's president for over 50 years. He was also a diver with the department's scuba team shortly after it's formation and later served as captain until the team's dissolution in 2020. Additionally, he held the position of president of the Liberty Firemen's Relief Association. He enjoyed fishing, drinking Yuengling Lager, listening to county music and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife Linda are sons, William husband of Lori Stoudt, Reading, PA, Russell husband of Valerie Stoudt, Muhlenberg Twp., PA, John husband of Desiree Dundore, Exeter Twp., PA, Michael Stoudt, Reading, PA, Richard Stoudt Bernville, PA; daughters, Cynthia Stoudt-Gogluizza, Spring Twp., PA. Lynn wife of James Allen, Reading, PA, Mary wife of Michael Sheidy, Orwigsburg, PA, Jennifer wife of Ryan Duley, Reading, PA; Nephew, James husband of Stephanie Stoudt, Muhlenberg Twp., PA. 21 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 9:00 to 12:00 Noon with Funeral Services immediately after at Cramp Hummel Funeral Home, 934 Centre Ave., Reading. Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Reading. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Reading Area Fire Museum, 501 S. 5th St., Reading, PA. 19602.
