Virginia Sarah Baughn Grundy, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 18, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bern Township, PA, at the age of 79. She was called home to be with her Lord and Savior after a life of devotion to her faith, family, and service to others.
Virginia was born on August 29, 1945, to the late Wilbert T. Baughn and the late Deaconess Virginia Sarah Smith Baughn. She was baptized in her youth by Reverend Gover at the First Baptist Church in Morton, PA, where she embraced Christ and remained a faithful member throughout her life. Virginia was an active participant in her church community, singing in the ‘Voices’ and Senior Choir, and contributing to the Jack Mack Freeman Education Committee and the Harrison Vaughters Drama Ministry.
A proud graduate of Ridley High School, Class of 1963, Virginia went on to train as an X-ray technician at Taylor Hospital. Throughout her career, she worked in a variety of settings including the Franklin Mint, Budget Car Rental, and Macy’s Department Store. Her most distinguished role was at Blank Rome LLP in Philadelphia, where she served for over 25 years as the Mailroom Coordinator and Concierge. Virginia was admired and respected by both attorneys and staff for her professionalism, warmth, and unwavering dedication. Her presence at the firm left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Virginia found immense joy in watching her three sons grow and thrive through the game of football. She was a proud and devoted fan at every level—from youth leagues to college stadiums. Her youngest son, Albert, was a decorated player in Delaware County, and the Grundy name became well known and respected throughout Delaware County and Pennsylvania football circles. Her passion for the sport was contagious and passed down to her grandsons, whom she absolutely adored watching play in youth and high school games. Her spirited support, proud cheers, and constant encouragement were a hallmark of her identity as a loving mother and grandmother.
Virginia was also a gifted cook whose dishes brought family and friends together in love and laughter. Her famous meatloaf and signature twice-baked potatoes with shrimp were more than meals—they were expressions of care that nourished both body and soul. Hosting gatherings brought her joy, and her home was always a place of warmth and welcome.
She is survived by her three devoted sons: James R. Grundy III, Christopher B. Grundy, and Albert J. Grundy (Elizabeth), who were also her loving caregivers. She is also survived by her grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her Godchildren: Aileen McCollum of Orange, TX; Serena MacBello of Glen Mills, PA; and Keith Taylor, Jr. of Tempe, AZ; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Deacon Robert Colley, her sisters Racheal Holliday and Darlyne Womack, and her brother Theodore Baughn.
The family would like to express their most heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Phoebe Berks Assisted Living in Wernersville, who provided exceptional, compassionate care in her final years and treated her with dignity, warmth, and grace. Special thanks also go to the team at Heartland Hospice Care for their tireless support, comfort, and guidance during Virginia’s final days.
A memorial service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New London Baptist Church, 226 Pennock Bridge Road, West Grove, PA 19390. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church in Morton, PA, in honor of the church that nurtured Virginia’s lifelong faith.
