Stelian Dumitrescu

Stelian "Bebe" Dumitrescu, 79 of Debary, Florida, passed away on July 15th at Halifax Health and Medical Center, Daytona, FL. Born in Craiova, Romania on March 7, 1944, he spent the 38-years of his life in Romania, mostly under the Communist rule of Eastern Europe. In 1982, to pursue better opportunities, he made the bold choice to temporarily leave his family behind while he attempted to escape from behind the Iron Curtain. While on a tour boat on the Danube River, Bebe jumped and swam to Yugoslavia, being shot once in the backside while swimming. Once in Yugoslavia he was put in a refugee camp. After some months in the refugee camp, he was given the opportunity to return to Romania or emigrate to Italy. From Italy he made his way to New York, where he worked in maintenance. Eventually, he was able to bring his mother, Wife and children, Daniel and Mihaela. He worked in New York for a few years before making his home in Reading, Pennsylvania. There he worked multiple maintenance mechanic jobs. In 1990 more family, his nephew Gabriel Dumistrescu, his sister Rodica Oslwald, niece Cristina Dumirescu-Paff, niece Sofi Dumitrescu and niece Emilia Stefan were able to come to America. "Bebe" was a loving father, brother, uncle and friend to us all. He is survived by his son Daniel and his daughter, Mihaela Cazares and son-in-law Rudy Cazares, along with 3 grandchildren; Ellie Dumitrescu, Caesar Cazares and Audrey Cazares. He is also survived by his sister Rodica Oswald and all his nieces, nephews, friends and all the rest of his loved ones. "Bebe" was an avid fisherman competing in many tournaments and always ready to catch that "big one!" His love to play billiards and cards will always be remembered. He loved his family and was always willing to help anyone in need. His sudden passing has affected many souls, but his memories will live on in our hearts forever.   Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Cramp Hummel Funeral Home, 934 Centre Ave., Reading.  A viewing will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in the funeral home.  Interment will be private.   CRAMP HUMMEL Funeral Home, Centre Ave., Reading has charge of arrangements. www.cramp-hummelfuneralhome.com
