Philip Walter Johnston, 81, died peacefully of Parkinson’s on July 5, 2021 at HCR ManorCare in Laureldale, PA. Born in Reading on 4/2/40, to Walter and Anna (Phillips) Johnston. Phil was the loving husband of 62 years to Margaret (Loose) Johnston. He is survived by daughter Cathy Johnston of Leesport, PA, Karen Johnston Eltz and her partner Peter Kiszczak of Fleetwood, PA, daughter Christine Johnston of Blandon, PA and bonus daughter Beverly McDevitt of Blandon, PA. Other survivors include sister Susan (Johnston) Bates and husband Jere Bates of Prescott, AZ; brother in-laws William and Joseph Loose; and 1 niece and 8 nephews.
Phil was a graduate of Reading High School. He retired from Carl Bieber Tourways after amassing nearly 2 million driving miles. He drove the Reading Phillies for 27 years and was inducted into the Reading Phillies Hall of Fame in 2000. He also drove the US Marine band on several of their national tours. Phil was a member of the St John’s Lodge, #435 and Scottish Rite Valley of Reading. He was a proud member of the train club as well. Phil is predeceased by many of his loving pets, especially Molly. People who had the pleasure of knowing and spending time with Phil are better people for the experience.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 11th at Cramp-Hummel Funeral Home, 934 Centre Ave, Reading, PA from 10:00-11:00 followed by a memorial service.
