Michael J. May

Michael John May, 52 Formerly of West Lawn, PA. was in born in Reading, PA on July 4, 1973, and passed away on June 13, 2026, after facing health challenges with courage and resilience for more than a decade. Known as "Bubba" to his high school friends and "Mikey" to others, he was an Independence Day baby who always took great pride in sharing his birthday with the Fourth of July, delighting in the celebration and spirit of the holiday.

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Nancy L. May and Richard R. May. He is survived by his sister, Michele L. (May) Mislevy; his brother-in-law, Marty J. Mislevy; his nephews, Alex J. Mislevy and Austin J. Mislevy and Austin’s wife, Holly (Gorman) Mislevy.

Those fortunate enough to know Michael knew that he had a deep appreciation for the simple joys and unique treasures of life. He had an extraordinary love of plants and landscaping, especially those that were unusual, spiky, or carried names inspired by dragons. He could identify countless varieties of plants and delighted in sharing his knowledge with others, teaching them not only how to care for them but how to truly see them as living, breathing members of the natural world. His beloved home in West Lawn was a reflection of that passion, filled with cherished plants and the stories behind each one.

Michael was an avid collector who loved attending auctions, antique stores, and vintage shops. Whether he came home with an item worth five dollars or simply enjoyed the thrill of the search, every piece he chose became part of a collection that held meaning and memories. He enjoyed long drives through the countryside, always eager to stop and explore whatever hidden treasures he might find along the way.

He adored his cats, who were faithful companions and brought him great comfort and joy. He was also immensely proud of his truck, which those who knew him understood was more than a vehicle—it was an extension of his personality and a source of pride.

Michael had a dry wit and a unique sense of humor that could catch you off guard and leave you laughing. He was never one to sugarcoat his thoughts and had a personality as distinctive as the unusual, spiky plants he loved so much. Those who knew him best understood that beneath his tough exterior was a loyal heart, deep gratitude for those he cared about, and an appreciation for the simple things that brought him joy. He loved his family and spoke of them often. In the years after his stroke, he cherished a small circle of loyal friends who remained close to his heart and whose friendships brought him comfort, laughter, and connection.
