Joseph M. Piano, Sr.

Joseph M. Piano, Sr., 80 of Ontelaunee Twp., PA., passed away on June 16, 2026 at the Reading Hospital surrounded by the family he so deeply cherished.  Joe shared a loving marriage with his devoted wife, Kathleen “Kathy” (Nally) Piano, beginning in 1963, and together they built a beautiful family that remained the center of his world for more than six decades. He was the son of the late Joseph J. and Rose E. (Pribilla) Piano. 

He worked many years as a truck driver, starting at Hertz moving and retired from Wetterau/Super Value in 2009.

He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: summers spent at the Jersey shore, enjoying outdoor concerts, and always making room for dessert.  He was a “fixer” of all things and “the man with the answer” for anyone who was privileged to know him.  He was “the master builder” always ready with his tools and knowledge to work on one of his many projects or to help any of the family with theirs.  He never missed an event or milestone for the children in his life.  He had a way of making sure everyone was taken care of.  If you knew Joe, you know you could expect a call to check in, a reminder to be careful, a reminder your vehicle inspection or registration is due, or one of his many questions making sure everything – and everyone – was exactly as it should be.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Piano and Kathleen (Betty) Scheibelhut.  Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter, Jeanette M. wife of Jeff Trate, Bernville, PA.; one son, Joseph M. Piano Jr., husband of Lisa; sisters Helen Swartzlander and Josephine Risheill, and one brother William Piano.

He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Rochelle Campbell, Rhiannon Kydd, Anthony Piano, Gabrielle Polakovski, and Taryn Buono, along with six treasured great-grandchildren: Hayden, Adyson, Harper, Rosalie, Luca and Willow, all of whom brought him endless pride and joy.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a steady presence whose love for family was evident in every part of his life.  His legacy will live on through the generations he helped shape and the countless memories shared with those fortunate enough to know him.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Resurrection of Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA. 19605.  Family and friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Chapel.  Online photos and memories can be shared with his family at cramp-hummelfuneralhome.com CRAMP HUMMEL Funeral Home, Centre Park, Reading, has charge of arrangements.
