Anna Jean (Hughes) “Jean” Dower, 81 of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 with her devoted son Mark at her side. Born in Locust Mountain Hospital, Shenandoah Heights on October 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Zkosky) Hughes. Prior to her retirement, she was last employed by Ashland Shirt Company where she worked for many years as a machine operator and quality control inspector. When she was not working, Jean enjoyed caring for her home, gardening, craft making, watching TV, and cheering on North Schuylkill football. Above all Jean enjoyed time spent with her family. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents were: four brothers, Joseph, Edward, Bernard and James Hughes; four sisters, Mary Mulroy, Francis Mack, Cathrine “Kit” Donovan and Geraldine “Gerri” Flynn.
Surviving are her three sons: Joseph and wife Lisa Dower; Michael and wife Lisa Dower; and, Mark and wife Amy Dower; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Jessica, Michael, Connor, and Gavin; five great-grandchildren: Sadie, Cambria, Emerson, Leo, and Kai. And, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1115 Walnut St., Ashland. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at church. Interment will be at Annunciation Cemetery, Shenandoah.
